Description

Polychrome and gilt decoration.
Saint Matilda of Ringelheim, Queen of Germany, depicted standing, holding in her right hand an open purse — a symbol of her generosity and charity towards the poor — and in her left the remains of a church maquette, an allusion to the founding of various monasteries and temples. At her feet, a child evokes her protection of orphans and the most needy.
