Text

This jewel is particularly interesting once it is possible to date its creation between 1900 and 1913. Consequently, the modernity of its design is evident in an Art Nouveau aesthetic already bearing a geometric flavour, heralding Art Deco. Additionally, there is a typically Portuguese character in the construction of the filigree pendant, certainly by the hands of masters from Gondomar.

The Ourivesaria de João Carlos de Araújo was one of the most interesting in downtown Lisbon. It was founded in 1878 but, from the few pieces known today, it is possible to appreciate aesthetic refinement and the fine quality of its works.

The relationship between what we see and what we know is never complete. The way we see things is influenced by what we know, or by what we believe.
